The Indian film fraternity has lost one of its most distinctive, powerful and unforgettable voices.
With profound sadness, we bid farewell to Shri Nana Patekar, who passed away at the age of 75 on October 8, 2026. His passing marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in Hindi and Marathi cinema and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
Nana Patekar was never just an actor. He was an artist who brought an unmatched intensity, authenticity and emotional depth to every character he portrayed. Whether dramatic, complex, humorous or deeply human, his performances carried a rare honesty that made audiences feel every word and every emotion.
Over a career spanning decades, he made an indelible mark on both Marathi and Hindi cinema, delivering memorable performances in films such as Parinda, Krantiveer, Natsamrat and Salaam Bombay!. His remarkable body of work earned him several prestigious honours, including three National Film Awards and the Padma Shri.
But the legacy of Nana Patekar extended far beyond the silver screen.
He was also remembered for his social commitment and his efforts to support people in need, particularly through his association with Naam Foundation and initiatives supporting farmers and rural communities. His contribution to society reflected another important dimension of the man behind the celebrated actor.
What made Nana Patekar truly special was his unmistakable individuality. His voice, his expressions, his dialogue delivery and his ability to completely inhabit a character made him instantly recognisable. He never needed to imitate anyone. He created a space that was uniquely his own.
His departure has left a deep void in Indian cinema. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted in his condolence message, Nana Patekar possessed an intensity, individuality and unmistakable presence that very few actors have had, and his memorable characters will remain with audiences for generations.
For countless admirers, his films will remain a cherished part of their lives. For generations of actors and artists, his work will remain a lesson in authenticity, dedication and the power of performance.
Today, we remember not only the legendary actor, but also the human being whose work touched millions.
Nana Patekar may have left this world, but the characters he created, the emotions he evoked and the legacy he leaves behind will live on forever.
Celebuzz Entertainment offers its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and millions of admirers across the world.
